David Ehlen's Statement

I can't look past a day with a telescope. That means I live for the day. What is going on that day floods over to the next day, just like my artwork. The many forms of relationships that I take on gives me a wide variety of stimulus to inspire my art. Many of this pieces that I've been working on for that past few years are of a surrealist series I've named Terminal Intensity. This series was started while I was working on my Bachelor of Fine Art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has continued through many of life's changes. The dark rhythm in the soul of this series is one of creating life, taking care of life and dying. Perhaps I'm more involved in this daily ritual of life that it flows out of my hand faster looking for answers.

My lifestyle allows me to paint everyday and I take advantage of this time given to me. I typically have five to seven paintings going at one time. This allows me to find the nature of the art and then bring it out. The mulitple influences allows me to work on the painting based on my mood or level of the time.
